Conference 2018 Update
Over 350 delegates joined us for a change of venue for this year’s Annual Conference in Blackpool.
Great weather, great workshops, great entertainment and great networking opportunities made the whole weekend an enjoyable experience for all who attended.
Starting on Friday with our AGM which was very well attended we then held a fun, interactive quiz hosted by Lee Page- it was clear that delegates were going to take full advantage of the weekend and enjoy themselves whilst equally learning and sharing experiences.
On Saturday morning the conference was opened by our fantastic host Tim Morton who welcomed delegates to the conference. Formal proceedings then commenced with our Chair Nick Reynolds who started with a moving 72 second tribute to our fellow tenants with the names and ages of all those lost their lives in the terrible tragedy at Grenfell Tower was impeccably observed by everyone in the room.
Nick then went onto update delegates about the past 12 months and also looking forward to the future of the TMO sector.
Lesley Channon, Chair of A Voice for Tenants Group (which at the moment is simply a steering group) and a member of the Benefit to Society (of which NFTMO are members of both groups) gave a very detailed and inspirational talk about the campaigns and her personal experiences.
The morning session concluded with NFTMO Exec members Masood Hussain and Simon Oelman updating members on the membership review the NFTMO is currently undertaking over the next few months to enhance and expand our services to members.
There then followed a series of workshops throughout the day including GDPR, Management of Change in TMOs, Financial Management, Governance, Performance Monitoring, Leaseholder Management, Insurance, Estate Vison on Community needs, interactive workshop with London Tenants Federation, Internal Audits, Delivering more for less, HR, Delivering an Effective Repairs Service and an update on the Community Housing Fund. All presentations can be downloaded here
Many thanks to our exhibitors who included Anthony Collins Solicitors, Gibbs Denely Insurance, Prentis, Newman Francis, Open Communities and the brilliant Urban Canopy who were showcasing their community engagement work with TMOs.
It was then time for some relaxation and to see the sights of Blackpool during the fantastic weather before the highlight of the conference- our Gala Dinner.
Following the lovely dinner we were entertained by a fantastic singer Hayley Louise who kick started the evening’s entertainment in style.
Our Award ceremony then commenced (see separate news item) with very inspirational groups and individuals receiving very much deserved recognition for their work. Then it was onto our raffle with prizes including an IPad, Colour Television and plenty of shopping vouchers. Massive thanks to our sponsors including Prentis, Morris Conferencing and of course the NFTMO.
And then it was back to the fantastic Hayley Louise for her second set of songs which really got the room buzzing and up on the dance floor where delegates were able to boogie the night away until the small hours following a long day, everybody had a fantastic time and took full advantage of the entertainment.
Sunday morning was more relaxed and included our popular ‘what’s your view’ session where we consult with our members in a fun, interactive method and then to close the conference it was over to Nick for an open mic session before delegates departed the conference for their journey home.
Feedback received was excellent and we thank everyone who attended to help the weekend run so smoothly and enjoyably.
