Government launches Green Paper

The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government have launched their long awaited Social Housing Green Paper ‘A new deal for social housing’

You can access the document Here

The Government have five core principles calling for a national discussion:

A safe and decent home which is fundamental to a sense of security and our ability to get on in life.

Swift and effective resolution so that when residents have concerns about the safety or standard of their home they see results.

Empowering residents and ensuring their voices are heard so that landlords are held to account.

Tackling stigma and celebrating thriving communities, challenging the stereotypes that exists about residents and their communities.

Building the social homes that we need and ensure that those homes can act as a springboard to home ownership

In addition there are some matters very relevant to our sector in which the Green paper states;

MHCLG are ‘seeking to understand more broadly how effectively this option (TMOs) is working for local authority tenants, and indeed their range of experiences’ para 78

We know the positive impact TMOs have both in delivering improved services, estate and community events and increased tenant satisfaction and this is why we will be holding 3 briefing and consultation events with our members to collate all the positive news and experiences of our members.

The events will be held in London, Birmingham and the North during the latter part of September/early October.

Please email us to express interest in attending these events

We would also urge all TMOs to respond directly to the consultation which closes on 6 November 2018
